The Economic and Trade Representation of the Wallon Region in Bratislava was opened in February 1992 in accordance with the Framework Agreement on Cooperation and Partnership between the Goverment of the Slovak Republic and the Executive of the Wallon Region of Belgium signed on the 23 November 1990.
Since the external trade (OBCE) was divided, the Economic and Trade Representation Office in Bratislava reports to the Walloon Export and Foreign Investment Agency (AWEX – www.awex.be ). The Agreement on Cooperation was also entered into with the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg.
The office also assures the trade representation of the Brussels-Capital Region (www.brussels-export.be) since July 2003 and the representation of the Flanders Region (www.fitagency.be) since October 2005.
The main objective is to help the Walloon, Brussels and Flemish companies to improve their export prospectives. For that purpose the office supplies the following services to the Walloon, Brussels and Flemish entrepreneurs:
- preparing studies of market segments, searching for Slovak partners
- searching for information about the regulations/standards, legislation and economy in the Slovak Republic
- organizing trade and business missions
- promoting the Walloon, Flemish and Brussels goods and services
